Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is the second wine of Chateau Margaux, one of the prestigious First Growth wines of the Margaux appellation, in Bordeaux. Pavillon Rouge is not classified. Some 200,000 bottles of Pavillon Rouge are produced annually. Typically it is about 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. In some vintages a very small amount of Cabernet Franc is added.
The 2001 Pavillon Rouge is close in style to the first wine, made all the more so by a strict selection, thanks to the availability of a third wine. The same aromatic freshness can be found; it is a little less complex but the same fine, tight, tannic texture is there; though it is a little less rich and less powerful. This is a fine vintage of Pavillon Rouge, which we can start drinking today while it has the freshness of its youth, or keep…
Excellent balance along with copious quantities of sweet black cherry and cassis fruit are found in the 2001 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux. Light to medium-bodied, with a style similar to its bigger sister, but neither the concentration nor length, it should be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.
