Genevrieres is a Premier Cru-rated climat of the Meursault appellation in the Cote de Beaune. It is planted entirely to Chardonnay and is one of Meursault’s larger and better-known vineyard sites, located at the southern end of the commune. Genevrieres Premier Cru wine tasting notes commonly cite hints of butter, almonds and grilled hazelnuts alongside the finer citrus-fruit and mineral elements.

Genevrieres is divided into two named halves, or lieux-dits. As is the case with so many Burgundy vineyards, the upper section (Genevrieres Dessus) produces the superior fruit, benefiting from improved drainage and increased exposure to the morning sunlight. The lower section, Genevrieres Dessous, is still of a high quality and is included in the climat’s Premier Cru status. Genevrieres also includes a small portion of each of the Chaumes des Perrieres and Chaumes de Narvaux sites, which would otherwise be entirely unclassified.

The Genevrieres site is located on the limestone slopes of the Cote d’Or escarpment. The east to southeast aspect provides ample exposure to the morning sunlight thoughout the growing season. It sits in a small cluster of Premier Cru vineyards at the southern end of Meursault. These produce the commune’s finest wines, which are renowned for being among the richer, more full-bodied Burgundy whites. Some of the complexity and aging potential of these wines is due to the fact that a lot of Meursault white is matured in oak barrels for slightly longer than whites from other communes.

Immediately south of Genevrieres are the Perrieres and Charmes climats, and together these three large sites produce the majority of Meursault’s Premier Cru white wines. Most red wines produced in Meursault are made under the Blagny or Volnay appellations.
