The 1998 Carruades de Lafite (61 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 33 percent Merlot, 4.5 percent Cabernet Franc, and 1.5 percent Petit Verdot) is a fantastic wine. It has a thick ruby/purple color, a great fragrance of black fruits, smoke, earth, and minerals, supple tannin, an excellent structure, and a long, fine finish, and is quite Lafite-like (though more supple and forward).
