August 2014: Showing considerable amber at its edge, the 1958 Montrose still retains a relatively strong personality with lots of wood spice, roasted herbs, cedar wood, leather, plum and old macerated cherries. The wine has surprising density, good acidity, relatively resolved tannins, but is clearly a traditional style of Bordeaux, the likes of which we rarely see these days. Size-wise, the wine is medium to full-bodied, and while fully mature, is capable of lasting at least another decade or more.
